Dr. Jehannine Austin, CCGC, CGC

Bio

Jehannine Austin is a board certified genetic counselor with a PhD Neuropsychiatric Genetics, and is ex-president NSGC (2016). Jehannine is a tenured Professor in Psychiatry and Medical Genetics, at the University of British Columbia (UBC), and is graduate advisor for the UBC genetic counseling MSc program. They are also Executive Director of the BC Mental Health and Substance Use services Research Institute.
Jehannine founded the worlds first specialist psychiatric genetic counseling clinic in 2012, which has helped >1000 families in British Columbia and trained more than 50 clinicians and students from around the world. The clinic won an award for the positive impact it has for patients. Jehannine has published ~100 peer reviewed publications, and co-authored a book on psychiatric genetic counseling. Their contributions have been recognized with national and international leadership awards, teaching awards, and election as a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Science, and member of the College of the Royal Society of Canada.
