Bio

I was a clinical genetic counselor for more than twenty-nine years, with almost 10 years of experience in prenatal counseling and 20 years in cancer risk assessment. In 2018, I made the transition to higher education, now serving as the Program Director of the Master of Science in Genetic Counseling Program at Bay Path University. I am a graduate of the University of Michigan training program and have served on the boards of directors of both NSGC and ACGC, and chaired the 2008 NSGC Annual Education Conference. Throughout my career, I have had the opportunity to supervise a sizable number of genetic counseling graduate students, have served as the Editor-in-Chief of Perspectives and on the editorial board of the Journal of Genetic Counseling. I have written several book chapters, published a number of scholarly articles, and edited a book entitled Ethical Dilemmas in Genetics and Genetic Counseling: Principles through Case Scenarios (Berliner, 2014). In 2019 I published my first novel, a work of dramatic fiction with a genetics theme called Brooke's Promise, and in 2021 published a second genetics-themed novel entitled In Good Conscience. I'm currently working on my third novel, which will also have a genetics theme.
